A sustainable service design centered on longevity. By providing age- friendly community services and redesigning existing community spaces, it not only enhances intergenerational interaction through the co-creation of a sustainable community, but also provides space for older people to socialize and realize their self-worth. In addition, tailor-made exercise programs can encourage older people to stay active and improve their physical and mental health.

Overview
The Problem
With remarkably advanced improvements of technology and science, human life expectancy will increase faster due to major biomedical breakthroughs. However, the longer individuals live, the more likely they are to get illnesses and/or suffer from other age-related disorders, implying an increase in needs of healthcare service for the elderly. Notably, the prevalence of physical inactivity, contributing to various health issues such as physical and mental illnesses, ultimately leading to increased mortality. Key contributing factors encompass the unavailability of accessible and senior-friendly facilities, and a deficiency in emotional support systems to motivate the elderly towards maintaining an active lifestyle.

How Might We
How might we encourage older adults to stay active and improve their physical and mental health through the design of age-friendly community service.
Research
Background Research
According to CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) data about physical inactivity among adults aged 50 years and older, the rate of physical inactivity increases significantly with age.
Inactivity-Related Health Problems
As people age, those who are not active are more likely to get type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer, among other diseases.
Physical Illness
Mortality Increase
Insufficient physical exercise was responsible for 8.3 % of all fatalities.
As people grow older, they develop a sense of isolation and loneliness brought on by reduced social interaction.
Mental Illness
User Research
In order to shed light on the worldwide trend of an increasing population of inactive older adults, caused by both individual and environmental factors, I chose 5 people to interview, including 3 older adults, 1 gym personnel, and 1 young person.
Insights
Seniors need external support as motivation to be active because most of them are feeling isolated as their age grows.
01
Motivation
Older adults still want to be recognized and feel needed. They are eager to continue making contribution as part of the society.
02
Recognition
With the inevitable decline in physical performance, leisure group activities have become the preferred choice for most seniors.

Takeaway
The focus of this project was user research, which helped me to identify user needs and find the most suitable and practical solution through interviews with multiple stakeholders. If I had more time, I could have conducted a more detailed field studies, which I believe would have helped me conceptualize the design of the space from a more comprehensive perspective.
This project made me realize that a good user experience is based on the most exhaustive user research possible, as this is the key to understanding user needs.
